Mrs. Deborah Sole

My name is Deborah Sole, and I am a life-long resident of Brooke County.  I attended Washington Elementary School, Wellsburg Middle School, and graduated from Brooke High School.  My college degrees include a Bachelor of Science in English 7-12 and Oral Communications 7-12 from West Virginia University and a Masters Degree in Counseling from West Virginia University.

I began my teaching career at Tyler County High School where I taught English 10, 11, and 12 for one year.  I moved back home to Brooke County at the end of that year to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Language Arts, Spelling, and Reading at Edgewood School for 4 years while completing my Masters Degree in Counseling.  Once I received my degree, I accepted a position at Bethany, Hammond, and Edgewood as a traveling counselor which I did briefly before taking a position as Follansbee Middle School Counselor where I worked for the next 12 years.  Since 1997, I have been Counselor at Brooke High where I serve as Head of the Counseling Department, ACT Coordinator, Member of the Honors Committee, and Member of the School Improvement Council.  This is my 36th year as an educator.

My office is located in the Guidance Suite where I help students complete scheduling for their high school coursework, planning for college, technical school or employment following graduation and provide scholarship and financial aid information for those planning higher education.  I provide individual and group counseling for students as well as referrals to community agencies when beneficial to a student's well being.  I regularly consult with parents, classroom teachers, and administrators;  I attend IEP meetings on behalf of my students.  I am pleased to know my students throughout their high school years and proud to sit in the first row at graduation and watch them receive their diplomas.
