ATTENTION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENTS
According to State Transportation Policy 4336, 4.1.2
“Parents are responsible for providing supervision for ALL kindergarten through 3rd grade students at all bus stops until the bus arrives for both pickup and delivery.”
This new policy voids our old policy which said through 2nd grade. Also, you can no longer write a note giving your child permission to be alone at the bus stop.
If a parent cannot be physically present at the bus stop, then it is their responsibility to ensure supervision is provided. The parent can designate a person to act in their place to assist the child. It shall be up to the parent to determine who that will be.
CHANGES TO BROOKE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION BUS SCHEDULES
Because safety of our children is our number one priority, we have had to make some difficult decisions regarding the roads we travel in Brooke County. After multiple road checks and discussions with the WV Department of Highways, I have determined that the following roads are not safe for school bus travel; therefore, our buses will no longer travel these roads and accommodations will have to be made to get children to the closest bus stop. While this may be an inconvenience for some, please keep in mind that the safety of children was the motivating factor for these changes.
