Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Melissa Garrett
Welcome to our classroom! My name is Melissa Garrett and I will be teaching the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science program this year. I am a graduate of West Liberty University with a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology and a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a Masters degree in Clinical Microbiology. While working on my Masters degree, I had the priviledge of studying at the Centers for Disease Control where I did my graduate research. Most recently, I received my teaching certification with a concentration in grades 5-12 Science from Wheeling Jesuit University. I live in Brooke County with my husband, Wayne and 2 sons, Drew and Alex.
I am hoping this will be a year full of fun and hands on learning. The PLTW program is designed to incorporate many of the same techniques and equipment that biomedical professionals use throughout the day. We will be exploring many of these different biomedical careers as well as learning about diseases and processes of the human body. I feel that hands on learning with classroom activities and labs promote a greater understanding of the topic and I will try to incorporate these into lessons as much as possible.
