Toni A. Paesano Shute
Mrs. Shute, a life-long resident of Brooke County, has spent 43 years serving the students of Bruin Country. Her career began at Wellsburg Middle School as a 7th & 8th grade Reading/Language Arts and Social Studies teacher from 1975-2004. She also coached girls' basketball and boys’ track at WMS and Brooke Cheering during that time. In 2004, Shute was appointed Assistant Principal at WMS, and the following year she rose to principal. After a year as Wellsburg's principal, Mrs. Shute became Brooke High School's principal and filled that position for 9 years until assuming the position of superintendent in 2015.
Shute has served and continues to serve in a variety of positions and organizations. She served on the Board of Governors at West Virginia Northern Community College, appointed by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. She is also a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, AASA: The School Superintendents’ Association, and WV PTA. She is the recipient of the Brooke County Council Lifetime Membership Award, the American Legion Service to Community Award, and Follansbee Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award. She was also nominated to receive the Life Changer of the Year Award.
Mrs. Shute is the daughter of Lorraine and Anthony Paesano of Follansbee. Her parents, married for 68 years, have been strong role models in her life. Her father, a retired teacher, coach, principal, board member, Mayor of Follansbee, and President of the Follansbee Chamber, instilled the importance of community service and pride in her as well as exemplified a tireless work ethic that Shute strives to emulate. Her mother, a homemaker, is a renowned cook and baker extraordinaire and gave Shute the love of cooking and baking. Both provided a strong family support system throughout her life.
Another huge supporter in Shute's life is her husband Robert L. "Bob" Shute. The couple married in Ireland during a summer vacation. Mrs. Shute has two sons and two daughters-in-law, Erik & Jamie (parents of grandchildren Birdie, 4 and Louie, 3) and recently married Kirk and Samantha. She also has two step daughters and step sons-in-laws, Alyssa & Anthony, and Christine & Jeremy (Parents to grandchildren Jaden, 13 and Ryan, 7)
