Ms. Lily Corathers
Lily Corathers has been the music and choir teacher at Wellsburg Middle School since fall of 2016.
She graduated from Herkimer High School in Herkimer, New York (home of the Magicians) in 2005. During her time there she starred as a chorus member in The Boyfriend (Freshman), the Mother in Meet Me In St. Louis (Freshman), Alice in Bye Bye Birdie (Sophomore), Mame in Mame (Junior), and Kate in Kiss Me Kate (Senior) as well as scoring straight 100's on multiple NYSSMA Solo auditions. Miss Lily participated in All-Area Band (flute), Regional All-State Chorus, Conference All-State Chorus (Mixed Chorus 2004, Women's Chorus 2005), as well as All-Eastern Chorus in 2005 under Jerry Blackstone. During her time there she also participated in Winterguard, tennis, student council, outdoors club, newspaper, yearbook, and many other things. She owes her successes to her band teacher Mr. David Fox and her choir teacher, Mr. John Krause whom she is privileged to now call her colleagues as well as to her supportive family. During these years she attended the First Baptist Church of Herkimer and was active in the choir, leadership, youth group, youth conventions, and was highly involved in summer camp.
Miss Lily graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia, in 2009 with a Bachelors in Music Education with an emphasis in voice. During her time there she participated in many performing groups including Concert Band, Jazz Band, Brass Choir (all on trombone), Concert Choir, Chapel Choir, Chamber Choir, Praise Team, and Beautyshop Quartet. She won the college Concerto Competition and performed a solo aria with members of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra in 2007 (Sophomore). She was also the guest alto soloist for Fairmont State University's performance of Handel's Messiah (Senior). Her other activities were charter member of the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota- an international women's music fraternity, a member of Sigma Alpha Pi- Society of Leadership and Success, Yearbook, Art Club, Outdoors Club, and was runner-up to Homecoming Queen (senior). During this time Miss Lily attended Living Water Church in Philippi where she was active in the praise team, bible study, and planning church collegiate events.
Post-graduation, Miss Lily worked 2 years at Glade Elementary School in Cowen, West Virginia teaching Kindergarten through fourth grades, then 2 years at Ripley High School in Ripley, West Virginia as the choral director, and finally for a year at Gilmore Elementary School in Sandyville, WV. In Cowen, Miss Lily attended First Presbyterian Church in Upperglade where she was active in the choir. In Jackson County, Miss Lily was an active member of Lifespring Community Church, Comunidad Nueva Esperanza, and the First Methodist Church of Ravenswood where she led the choir for a time.
Other things Miss Lily enjoys doing includes travelling (Mission trips to Kamanze, Kenya and Cochabamba Bolivia as well as performing trips to the Netherlands/France/Germany, Italy), crafting of all sorts, writing letters, poetry, and music, and making constant musical noise! She believes the day is best spent with her wonderful daughter and two dogs.
