Welcome to Follansbee Middle School - Go Blue Waves! #thefinalwave
As the 2017-18 school year comes to a close, I am sure we all have many fond memories of our two middle schools. However, the opening of Brooke Middle School next year will bring many exciting changes and academic opportunities for our students.
One of those changes is the option for student scheduling. All students will still be receiving instruction in the four core content subjects of Mathematics, English/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. However, there are also a few options available to our sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. See the link below.
Locations for Meals and Enrichment
After a meeting with the union reps and communication with community members, several facilities throughout the county will be open for our students from 8 AM until 3 PM tomorrow....if you or anyone you know would like to volunteer, please contact your principal...high school student volunteers will receive community service...we are also hoping for parent and community member volunteers. The sites are as follows: Beech Bottom Town Hall, Brooke Hills Free Methodist Church, Wellsburg Fire Department (upstairs), St. Anthony's, Open Door Baptist Church, Colliers Church of God, and Millsop Community Center. Thank you for your dedication to our students!!
After School Tutoring:
Follansbee Middle School is offering an after-school tutoring program to assist with classroom work. Sessions will be held at Follansbee Middle School on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning now through the rest of the year. Sessions will run from 4:00p to 5:00p. See the link below for a copy of the letter and contract, which should be turned in to your student's homeroom teacher or directly to Mr. Rothwell.
At Follansbee Middle School, we are a community of learners creating an environment of integrity, citizenship and personal responsibility.
The Follansbee Times Student Newspaper
Miss Harless' newspaper staff meets daily during 9th period to create a monthly newspaper for every student and teacher in the school. Students conduct research for articles, interview students and staff, and write and format their articles independently. Articles include school, community, U.S. and world news, school and professional sports news, club news, a middle school survival guide, reviews on movies, and a monthly question. Miss Harless and her staff hope all students and faculty enjoy reading "The Follansbee Times." Check back for the first edition of the 2017-2018 school year!
