Hello and welcome to my page! Here you will find information about the school counseling program, upcoming counseling-related activities and events, and counseling topics and resources.
I am the school counselor at Hooverson Heights Primary School, Jefferson Primary School, and Colliers Primary School. I have been working with Brooke County Schools since 2006, and have experience working in the mental health agency setting and human resources prior to that.
I am a master’s level counseling professional who works with all students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff and the community, in order for every student to achieve academic, career, and personal/social success. School counseling services are delivered in several different ways:
Individual Counseling - I work with students in a safe, positive, and confidential setting to address issues that get in the way of school achievement. Topics are based on the needs of the student and may include: understanding feelings, changing families/divorce, anger, grief, stress, social skills, academics, bullying, and problem-solving.
Small Group Counseling – Small groups provide an opportunity for students to come together to share concerns or issues that they may have in common with each other. Typically, these groups consist of 4-6 students, and 30-minute sessions are held once per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Topics are based on the needs of the students and may include divorce or changing families, grief and loss, friendship and social skills, study skills, conflict resolution, anger management, anxiety, self-esteem, and stress-management.
Classroom Counseling/Guidance lessons - I develop and implement K-4 classroom curriculum driven by both national and WV Student Success Standards. I often co-teach lessons with other professionals in the building to support social and emotional growth across curricular areas. Classroom lessons are regularly scheduled and address personal, social, academic, and career-related needs at the child's developmental level. Topics may include self-esteem, conflict resolution, study skills, anger management, career awareness, tattling/reporting, friendship/social skills, responsibility, respect, teasing/bullying, feelings, cooperation, goal setting/decision-making, and peer pressure.
Consultation and collaboration - I regularly collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, students, social workers, and many other professionals. I participate in student assistance team (SAT) meetings, and assist in the coordination of various supports for students and families.
It is a pleasure to work with your child.
